Dubai Hot Fudge Sundae at the Ghirardelli Chocolate Experience in San Francisco (all photos by TP)
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending a super fun private preview at the Ghirardelli Chocolate Experience store in San Francisco in order to taste the Dubai Hot Fudge Sundae that will be served for one day in SF (March 8) and one day in New York City (March 22 at the Empire State Building).
Getting Friday night sundaes at Ghirardelli Square was one of my favorite social activities in high school, and the first bite of this dreamy sundae brought me right back to my childhood! I was definitely a kid in a candy store. There’s just no beating that hot fudge and caramel sauce combo, and they nailed the trinity of chocolate, pistachio butter and kataifi (shredded, toasted phyllo dough) in a balanced way that’s not too sweet. And the gilded milk chocolate caramel square on top is beautiful.
Ghirardelli sent me home with a huge goodie bag and a second sundae, which I turned into the world’s best milkshake at home — I recommend getting one to eat on the spot and one for the freezer for a future shake, if you don’t live too far away from the shop!
If these days prove popular and the sundae sells out (about 500 will be made), there’s a chance that Ghirardelli will offer this sundae again. But don’t count on it! Go try it!
Map: La Cocina’s 20th Anniversary
K.T.P.P (Kuy Teav Phnom Penh) at Lunette in San Francisco
This week’s map comes from San Francisco’s wonderful food business incubator La Cocina, which just created a commemorative map to celebrate 20 years of helping hundreds of mostly women and immigrant-owned businesses to thrive in the Bay Area. It’s been a joy to support this organization for the entire time I’ve been writing about food. La Cocina is throwing a big gala in the city on May 1; here’s the ticket link.
Good Taste: Iced Coffee
Iced kopi pandan at Kopiku Indonesian Coffee in San Francisco
For those times when you’re in San Francisco and need dessert and coffee in one drinkable form, this week’s GOOD TASTE column at 48 Hills has some fun picks for you. I didn’t know there was such a drink as a John Lennon mocha until yesterday.
