Korean salt bread at the Tano pop-up in San Francisco (photos by TP)
Isaac Taitano’s thrice-weekly Tano pastry pop-up at the FiDi location of Paper Son Coffee (Wed-Fri at 303 Second Street, San Francisco) is so popular that customers have a five-pastry limit and can only buy one of any particular item.
It’s been on since February, and I finally made it down there this morning. These were my choices — which five would you pick?
Tano’s full menu
Here’s what I ordered:
Salt bread
Ube salt bread
Salted egg sauce kabocha sourdough focaccia
Miso mushroom Everything scone
Passionfruit mochi cookie
Guava Pillow
Every beverage on Paper Son’s menu looked delectable. I opted for a Guava Pillow, which is a sparkling coffee soda with a guava cream top. Heavenly.
I ate half of the plush, milky and buttery salt bread at the cafe while sipping on the Pillow, and will be sharing tastes of the rest with friends this weekend. My expectations are high based just on that salt bread.
Obviously, I’ll have to go back to try more drinks from Paper Son Coffee and the other five items from Tano.
While I was on that side of town, I hit up another special new place that I’ll write about soon. . .
